Beautiful Bronzed Makeup

Bronzed Beauty – Charlize Theron

Stunning. Charlize is always absolutely stunning. She loves her bronzed eye makeup and because her eyes are green, bronze colours tend to look beautiful around them. This also goes for blue eyes. But not to worry if you don’t have this eye colour – bronzey looks can suit everyone.

You may notice that in the bottom photo, Charlize has put more emphasis on her lower eye liner. This is excellent for a sexy ‘evening’ look. But being that the eyeshadow is bronze, not black or charcoal, like a traditional ‘smokey’ eye, it’s a bit less severe. In the top photo there is less emphasis on the lower lid and more on the top lid.

Charlize has kept her skin radiant and bronzed. This helps keep her look youthful and fresh. Extremely matt looks can tend to be ageing and powders can settle into creases if applied too heavily. She’s also done her lips in nude shades and applied gloss on top. Again, this is very youthful and fresh and goes well with bronzed eyes and cheeks.

Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Apply your foundation and concealer, making sure everything is really well blended and colour matched to your neck and chest. (Or if you’re like me, you may choose to do your eyes before applying your foundation so you’re able to clean off any eyeshadow fall-out)

If you prefer creams over powders and like a really dewy look, use a liquid bronzer after your base (e.g. By Terry Soleil Terrybly Hydra-Bronzing Tinted Serum) Then use a cream highlighter on your cheekbones, down your nose and on your brow bones (e.g. Nars ‘orgasm’ cream highlighter stick). Then use a peachy/bronzy cream blush (e.g. NARS ‘enchanted’ cream blush). If you’d like to set everything, use a very light dusting of a translucent setting powder (e.g. Mac blot powder), especially on the t-zone.

If you prefer powders over creams, after your foundation and concealor, use a setting powder all over the skin. Then use a powder bronzer (i.e. NARS ‘Laguna’ bronzer) and finish with powder highlighter (e.g. NARS ‘albatross’ highligher) and blush (e.g. NARS ‘Super Orgasm’ blush). This will give a highlighted/bronzy/peachy look but won’t have a ‘super dewy’ finish. This may be a better option if you are prone to oily skin or need this to stay put for many many hours without a touchup.

Step 2: Use an eye primer or prep your eyelids with concealor, then powder. This will help to prevent creasing. Apply your ‘goldy’ eyeshadow (e.g. Mac ‘Woodwinked’) all over the lid then a darker shade of bronze in the crease and blended to the edges (e.g. Mac ‘Antiqued’ or ‘Bronze’). Then apply a black eyeliner to the inner rim of your lower lashline. Then use a gold/bronze eye liner (e.g. Bobbi Brown ‘Bronze Shimmer’ eyeliner gel) and apply it underneath your lower lashes. Next, take the gold/bronze liner onto the top lash line.

If you prefer the softer look, skip the black eyeliner on the inner rim in the bottom of your eyelids.  Just put the bronze eyeliner under your bottom lash line. You can then choose to use a black liner on the top of your lids to emphasise your eye shape.

You can also use a light gold or champagne eyeshadow in the inner corners of the eyes to highlight (e.g. NARS albatross highlighter). Finish off your eye makeup by sweeping on lots of black mascara (e.g. Diorshow black mascara).

Step 3: To finish, all you need to do is apply a pretty nude lipstick (e.g. Mac ‘Blankety’ lipstick) and/or gloss on your lips (e.g. Mac ‘Viva Glam V’gloss).
